Description of the building:
3 floors industrial building located in Yuen Long, it was built in 1986.
Retrofitted initiative:
The construction site is the roof of a three-storey longitudinal industrial building located in Yuen Long. During the daytime, the heat absorbed by the roof from the solar that directly transmits to the top floor beneath it and becomes trapped inside due to the lack of fenestration. Therefore, the air-conditioning system operates from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. to ensure human comfort, which results in an extremely high cooling load for the system.
To lower the indoor temperature and reduce air-conditioning consumption, Heat Shield Paint (Chirucoat – HSP) is applied to the rooftop of that industrial building. Heat Shield Paint (Chirucoat – HSP) is applicable to building rooftops and walls on all sorts of materials – including concrete, stone, metal, or wood. Its solar reflectivity closes to 90% that can effectively lower down indoor temperature after constructions.
Observed benefits other than energy saving:
- Applicable to building rooftops and walls on all sorts of materials, including concrete/ stone/ metal/ wood to effectively cool down indoor temperature after constructions.
- Outstanding smoothness, high level of brilliance, appealing finishes.
- Efficacy good for 10 years.
General observations of the retrofitting project:
- Apply heat shield coating on the surface of roof top which could minimize the heat from entering indoors.
- Project duration: 30 working days
- Execution difficulty: workers are required to attend a 3-day training workshop. The application shall be carried out by trained workers using paint rollers.
- Disturbance to occupant: slight smell of paint which dissipates within a few hours upon application.
