The 11th Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Conference on Building Operation and Maintenance
The Hong Kong Green Building Council (HKGBC) recently had the honour of participating in the 11th Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Conference on Building Operation and Maintenance, which was held at the Macao Science Center on 15 September 2023. Using the theme of “Sustainable Development and Smart Application of Innovative Technology for GBA Building Facilities Towards Carbon Neutrality”, this important event provided an excellent platform for fostering professional technical exchange. The conference focused on the themes of sustainable development and the smart application of innovative technologies, with the collective aim of working towards carbon neutrality.
During the conference, Ir Dr Cary CHAN, JP, Executive Director of the Council, delivered a keynote speech, sharing valuable insights on building energy efficiency with the attendees. Furthermore, Ir Dr Paul SAT, Head of Industry Practices and Research, and Mr TW FUNG, Manager - Energy Services from the Council, contributed to the conference by presenting technical papers that showcased their expertise and knowledge on enhancing energy performance through the smart application of technologies, retrofitting strategies, and retro-commissioning (RCx) techniques.
Ir Dr Cary CHAN, JP, Executive Director of the HKGBC delivered a keynote speech in the conference.
The technical paper authored by Ir Dr Paul SAT – which was titled "Using Operational Data to Assess the Energy Performance of Existing Commercial Buildings for Facilitating the Achievement of Long-Term Energy/Carbon Reduction Targets" – sheds light on the importance of reducing operational carbon emissions through energy-saving measures such as replacement, retrofitting, and retro-commissioning (RCx). The paper underscores the need for the development of an assessment platform that enables continuous monitoring and reporting of energy performance improvements to building owners, thereby promoting a series of energy-saving initiatives.
By providing insights and recommendations on energy performance assessments and improvements, the paper underscores the HKGBC's commitment to promoting sustainable development in the building industry. The research presented in the paper serves as a valuable resource for building owners, professionals, and stakeholders, encouraging them to implement energy-saving measures and contribute to the long-term goal of achieving energy and carbon reduction targets. By disseminating valuable research and practical insights, the Council continues to play a vital role in helping Hong Kong’s building industry decarbonise and advance towards net zero.
